Ok - here is the update.  I have thought and stressed and prayed and depressed about it and I am not going to run the Ogden Marathon on Saturday.  My chiropractors says he thinks I could run it without serious injury - my gut says it would be a mistake.

Smooth - I know you want to run - but one thing that no one has mentioned in all the discussions with you (at least that I can remember) is age.  I hate to point it out - but we are not spring chickens and recovery can be even harder as you get older.  The body is just not as elastic.  Look at what Teena and Michelle are dealing with and they are just babies in comparison.  Take the day off - join me at the Women of Steel Triathlon in American Fork and help me cheer my sister in on her very first triathlon.

My plans are to take it easy recovering and still do the Grand Slam - with Utah Valley being a very long training run and lots of recovery time before Park City and maybe not even racing (just running) Top of Utah and St. George so that I can do my 50 miler.

That being said - I am also not going to use the blog as much.  I will still get on to visit, but I am going to work on creating my own PHP/MySQL tracker as a learning tool and just put mileage on the blog - maybe once every week or two.  I really think that while my running has improved since I joined the blog - my quality of life has gone downhill. I no longer feel like I can walk and count miles.  I feel pressured to improve.  That is  not me.  My entire goal is to be better each year than the year before, be happy and be fit all around - not just running.  I want to get back to that.  I had several great years of marathoning with no injuries until I started getting pressure (and giving in to pressure) to focus almost entirely on running.  I am hoping to post two or three interesting training runs/walks/workouts on my Adventures in Running blog and would love to have anyone check that out at any time.

So - how am I doing.  Depressed.  Physically, the pain is very low today, so tonight I took the puppy to Wheeler Farm and we did two easy miles walking 200 steps, running 100 steps, stopping to smell pee markers (not me :-) ).  I will be stretching and icing later tonight and am looking to get some resistance bands to start some specific exercises I have found that I can do at home when I don't feel like hitting the gym.

I spent 4 hours at the temple and came home feeling much more peaceful.  This weekend is going to be hard - but I will survive and I will be back and I will have a much better summer than if I push myself and find myself injured.

Now - off to watch the season finale of CSI!

Ah, Maurine, I am sorry you are struggling! I really understand what you say about the blog. It can be a blessing and you have made many friends, but it does cause many of us to be too competitive and push harder than we want to or should. I have gone back and forth about it in my own mind several times. What is important is that you do what works for you, the rest of us will understand!! And we will cheer you on no matter what!

Enjoy CSI, I am going to go watch LOST!

Maurine, what I have learned from you is immeasurable. Thanks for sharing your thoughts, challenge and struggles. It is heart-felt. I really appreciate your perspectives and most of all, your friendship. You have offered so much to this blog. It has helped me be a better person. I learn that we are not just "runners". We are noble people who happen to enjoy running. The pressure to compete and perform can throw us off-guard and off balance. We all need time to heal and to recover. And you are SO RIGHT about our aging bodies not as resilience as when we were spring chicks. That is just the facts of life which we have little control. You are doing an amazing job in taking care of your body and finding the balance. Just want you to know that I care and am grateful for your friendship. You made the right and very wise decision. We do need to give our bodies more time to heal rather than setting ourselves up for failure. Take care and I will check on you often. There will be good times ahead, I just know it!!! Alma 34:41 Love you!!!

I don't know what I'm gonna do on Sat. There's a 5K Running With Angels at Thanksgiving Point where my nephew and his wife are releasing the white dove. Their baby girl was born on Apr 28 and lived 14 hours. I might see them. I have a zillion things to do to get ready for my trip to IA on Mon. So that will keep me from getting too depressed. Have fun cheering on your sister in AF. My friend's daughter is doing the Women of Steel too. FUN! LOVE YOU!

Hey you! I think walking should count and I do count it. Whom ever told you you cant count walking is CRAZY!!! :) you can count whatever you want! This is maurine.fastrunningblog.com NOT "Maurine-should-run-how-i-tell-maurine-to-run.fastrunningblog.com" ;D

On a side note- I was telling Kim Lee (former blogger who quit because of the blog pressure) that I don't feel the pressure anymore because of WONDERFUL bloggers(friends really) like you. I think that runners like us (not super speedsters) really lend balance to the blog. I will probably never do anything amazing with running, but I love it and I love running with other runners like me. You 100% need to do whatever you need to do, and I am SO sad to see you go. It's a darn good thing I have your cell # and email address so i can harass you on a regular basis :)

Thanks friends. I really love my friends from the blog - which is why I am not going to go away - just post my workouts less. I'll kind of pull a Teena - but not go private with my blog.

Ditto to all the above comments!!! BUT....I know where you live and I know where you work, so you are not getting away from me, but then I am not a threat, you kick my trash everytime we go out, we need to do lots of trail runs this summer, nice and slow and smell the flowers, or as in Odee's case smell the dog pee :). Yah, Marion is right I count my hiking and walking too!

So what I am doing on the blog, since I am old and don't really care about getting any faster, is I am not blogging my pace any more! Just logging my miles and having fun socializing a bit with my buddies!!

REst up girl! Chin up! You are awesome!! I will come by tonight and give you your packet, or you can come piok it up at my house and have quinoa and marinara sauce with the Ernie and Gary and us! I will call you on my way back from Ogden.

My goal is to finish the marathon in under 6 hours.

OK now ladies- you are saying that I have no place on this blog either?? I may NEVER get any faster at all EVER. As sad as that may be to some, I am still faster and fitter than I have EVER been and I LOVE you all! DON"T GO AWAY!!!!

From maurine on Fri, May 15, 2009 at 12:42:56 from 63.255.172.2

Geesh Marion - get off your high horse. I didn't say that and you know it. I'm saying that the focus on speed/running has led to my being injured more and feeling pressured on something that was fun.

Remember - Les and I did this for many years on our own without ever blogging. I just think I got carried away with dreams that might or might not come true and quit being satisfied with the progress I was making as an athlete.

I don't remember saying I was going away - I said I am going to post less about my workouts. To me there is a difference.
