One mile earlier with the dog. Then an afternoon at Boondocks with the company.

Ran the Moonlight Half Marathon in Mapleton last night.  I started at 8:30 and finished at 11:20 - so 2 hours 50 minutes.

Lot more uphill than I expected the first few miles, so alternated walking and running. You are supposed to do this race without a watch and I kind of missed my Garmin, but it was nice not focusing on time and distance as much as I tend to do. They did a good job having people out at turns and lots of flashing and strobing lights (too much sometimes).

All participants needed to wear reflective gear.  I had on a reflective hat and reflective belt. They also recommended a headlamp and I brought a small one. I was very glad for that because it was awfully dark up in the canyon and even on the streets later and it would have slowed me down even more trying to stay on the paved trail and avoid a faceplant.  Very different not being able to see what is coming up and having to gauge whether you are going uphill or down.

Ran without music until mile 9.  I was totally enjoying the sounds of the woods and river and the frogs and crickets.  In the early out and back section did a lot of high fives encouraging people on.

It was a well run race.  I might try the Legacy Moonlight Run next year since it is closer.

Good job Maurine! I've heard about this race and was always too chicken to run in the dark! I assumed that the full moon would give enough illumination, guess not in the canyons! sounds so fun...! Glad you are enjoying your running and spreading joy highfiving fellow runners!
