Short-Term Running Goals:

After 1/9/2010 - I am taking a year off from marathon length distances and focusing on building up my base speed on half marathons and shorter distances.

2010 Speed Goals:

  • Build up my base speed on training runs to 10 MM miles or better
  • Half Marathon - break 2:05 (9.5 MM avg)
  • 10K Goal 1 - break 1:00 (9.67 MM avg)
  • 10K Goal 2 - break 55 minutes (8.87 MM avg)
  • 5K Goal 1 - break 26.35 minutes
  • 5K Goal 2 - break 25 minutes

Long-Term Running Goals:

Long Term Goals:

  • Complete a 100 Mile race
  • Complete a 100 K race
  • Break 12 hours in a 50 mile race
  • Run all portions of the Wasatch 100 course
  • Break 5 hours in a marathon
  • Break 4.5 hours in a marathon
  • Qualify for and run Boston

After work I saw that the pool at my condo complex was empty, so went and swam laps for 16 minutes.  Boy, I felt out of shape - I don't think I've swum in over 4 years.  Plus, I was trying to learn to breathe to the left and that made me feel like an alien.  It is so ingrained in me to breathe to the right side and if I ever want to do triathlons, I know I need to learn to do both sides.

Tonight, I went and ran a new section of the Jordan River Parkway Trail that I have never done before. Started at about 9800 South and headed south. Round trip, this section of the trail is only about 5 miles total.  Dang - it was hot and the heat really slowed me down.  I guess I should either drag myself out of bed earlier or run later to get it a little cooler.

Most excellent workout! Leaqrning to breath on the "other" side can be very tricky! You'll get it down in no time... or you'll drown in the tri ;) Why di you have to be able to breath on both sides?

I want to start doing tri's next year and they say it is important in open water swims to be able to breathe on both sides in case you have waves coming at you from the direction you are used to breathing on.

If you are looking at doing tris you ought to check out JohnA on the blog. He just did awesome in the Spudman. I think there is a Scott Zincone or something like that who also does tris! Good luck. It sounds like fun?!??? :)
