Last week ended up being more of a 'recovery' week than I expected.  Friday afternoon I was suddenly hit with severe pain and vomiting and thought I had food poisoning.  Long story made short - I eventually had to call 911 and after many hours they determined it was a 7mm kidney stone barrelling through my body.

1 mile easy with the dog, then another 3 on my own.  Trying to use the heart rate monitor all week to make sure I don't push too hard after last Friday's nightmare to my body.

1 miles easy with the dog, then five on my own.  Body is feeling pretty good.  The ankle hurt over the weekend from my spasming, but seems to be doing okay now.  Will try and do a full body weight training and some other cardio tonight.

3 miles with the dog, then got called into the office on an emergency.  After finishing that project, ran some more for a total of 11.75 miles.

Passed the kidney stone this afternoon with no problem - so no longer have to have that worry hanging over my head.

2 miles to the Post Office and back with the dog, followed by 6 miles on the Trax Trail down to where it had a fire last night and back home.

Yesterday was a killer day at work and no breaks except for an exciting Condo Board Meeting (no sarcasm at all there) from 7 a.m until midnight when I finally crashed.

Tons of meetings today and I know I still need to do a couple of hours worth of work tonight, but after the meetings ended I came home, played with the dog, bugged my son, then headed out to run up to the gym on 13th East. Threw in a few hill repeats down to Creek Road and back and then took an hour to do a full body work out at the gym.  Then I ran up 13th East to 9400 South and down towards the quarry.  I finally explored a paved trail that runs between the ampitheater and the golf course on the east and Wally World and the new condos on the west.  It is about a mile long and has some gentle hills on it.  There is a killer switchback down to the condos that I might use for some really tough hill repeats one day.  Ended up taking the dog out for a one mile cooldown for a total of 9.5 miles running.

I was going to get more of a run done this morning, but as I left the condo association, I noticed some car had smashed into one of our brick lightposts and had to wait for the cops to come and give me a case number and then talk to other board members. 2.25 quick miles with the dog.

Family reunion this morning and this afternoon.

Working now.  Hopefully I will get some more running in tonight.

Felt some pain in my eye during the night, but it didn't really mean anything until I woke up and realized my cornea had torn again. Rummaged around in a panic until I found the emergency contact I had for this.

Since running seems to be one of the things that actually eases the pain, took the dog out for a 2 mile warmup run, then dropped her off and did another four on my own.  Steve A flew by me as I was heading in to get ready for work.

Glad I was not leaving for Michigan until tomorrow.  Need to get into an eye doctor today.

I had planned to run my usual paved paths alongside the freeways, but both directions are under repair.  They were still working on them when we came back from dinner, so didn't dare sneak on them tonight.  Instead I hit the treadmill in the hot little hotel gym.  My body could only stand 4 miles tonight, so then did another 30 minutes on the stationary bike.

Tomorrow morning I might just run parking lots and maybe sneak onto the trails with my headlamp on Thursday morning.

Snuck past the barricades to run on my paved trails last night.  The section I chose had already been repaved and they were working on the shoulders, so it is good to know I will be able to run the paths again when I come back in two weeks.

Gonna take it easy for 2 days before Park City.

Race: Park City Marathon (26.2 Miles) 05:50:00

26.200.000.000.0026.20

I did the Park City Marathon today as a long training run. Overall, I was relatively pleased with my endurance, not very happy about my speed.  Time to start pushing speed in my workouts.

I saw Luz in the fieldhouse this morning and then met Smooth and Teena.  Teena was nice enough to KT Tape my left knee for precautionary measures.  It has been a little twingy on runs, but nothing I was worried about.  I had a wrap for my ankle in case I need it because it has been a bit sore at times lately, but I keep finding that it never hurts when I run, so ended up not needing to wrap it.

The contact was removed from my eye yesterday and I debated putting another emergency contact in this morning. I am starting to dreading sleep because that is usually when I feel the skin on the cornea tear. The eye has bothered me all day - probably should have put the lens in - but I used medicated eye drops instead.

Anyway - back to the race.  Park City is so low key compared to other races.  They had the anthem right before 6:30 and then we headed out.  I kind of wish they would start the race at 6 to try and beat the heat up there more.  I knew I wouldn't have any speed because I haven't done any speed work or altitude work this year. I had said hello to Mike DeWaal and his wife before the race - he is my mailman from work.  This was his first marathon post heart attack and they were aiming for 5 hours as a long run too.

Shortly after starting out I saw one marathon runner just quit the course and then about 1-2 miles out saw a couple of half marathoners realize they were on the wrong course.  Talked with Ken, one of the bike paramedics and we would joke with each other throughout the race.  I actually geared myself to be in last at the beginning and was comfortable not pushing myself.  I knew I would start passing people after a while.

Around mile 4 I passed my first runner.  She was talking about the hills and I mentioned there were about 17 miles of uphills on the course. She then said, "Good thing I am only doing the half." I mentioned she was on the wrong course and she said that she had a brother and other friends also running the half that were up ahead.  After the race I mentioned this to the RD, Jolie, and suggested she post a sign around the corner by the fieldhouse to let half marathoners know they were on the wrong course. Never saw that runner again.  Hope she got a ride back.

At mile 6 I passed two runners.  Easily pulled ahead of them and then didn't pass anyone again until mile 12.  I was just enjoying listening to an audio book and really didn't pay attention to the mile markers, but noticed they were usually 1/10 of a mile early compared to my GPS.

Starting at mile 14, I was able to pass 2-4 or more runners each mile and only one ever passed me back for good and that was at a pit stop.  Took advantage of any water hoses that people were using to mist people and had my lower body cooled down.

The course was a little different coming back through Park City.  I think they had events with the Tour de Utah and had to keep us out of the downtown area. After Empire Avenue, I found they did a better job of marking the course in the neighborhoods and didn't get off course like a bunch of us did last year.

One bossy little girl was really cute and giving out ice water at her house.  I gratefully took it and then put all the ice in my cap.  It felt good to have that melt over the next few miles.

One disadvantage of running near the back - all the food was gone when I ran by the big barn. :( PC uses Hammer Gels, so had to carry all my own gels since those made me sick.

Overall - it was a good race.  I like the new disposable chip system and thought the race was well run.  I did like the food at the end - they gave you a disposable bowl with 3 banana chunks, two types of bread and some pretzels.  Now if only the chocolate milk was not all gone.

I had plans to run more later today, but the altitude and hills took a toll on me.  Just did an ice bath and lounged around wearing compression shorts and socks.

One of my developers flew in from Michigan and we went running tonight over at Wheeler Farm in our Vibram FiveFingers.  2 miles easy followed by 3 repeats of 30 seconds sprints.  Cooldown as we ran back to the office to put in more hours.

Eye is still bugging me. Had to put another contact in today because the pain got so bad.  This time we are going to leave it patched for at least a week.

I had great plans for speedwork this week at lower elevation, but when we got off the plane in Michigan this afternoon we were slammed with 92 degree heat and high humidity.

Tonight I ran 8.5 miles on the trails in my new crocs.  Other than needing to get used to little pebbles creeping in, they were nice and comfortable.

Finished up with 45 minutes on the stationary bike in the hotel fitness center.
