I'll post more later.

2008 was the coldest marathon in St. George history. 2010 was the hottest.

Ran with Leslie until mile 11 then lost her.  Passed my marathon guru Vic Mason (running his first marathon in 5 years after two Achilles surgeries sidelined him) at 13.  He was struggling with food poisoning.

Disappointed that St. George did not have gu's this year except at mile 5 - glad I brought my own.

Pushed myself moderately in the heat, but knew that I couldn't PR in the heat, so settled for breaking 5:30 and keeping healthy for PE50 in 13 days.

Thanks to the marvelous Teena/Tina for taping my knee and IT band on Wednesday night. No pain at all!

My sister was an awesome crew.  Came to Veyo to cheer us all on and got a lot of comments on her sign about 'Go Mo' - she says a lot of people thought she meant more instead of Mo. :) Also said one guy asked where Larry was.  She thought about replying he was either at the Gay Games or long gone (my ex is Larry) - but figured it would only confuse them. Then, she was waiting on the Diagonal at 24 with a frosty Gatorade and a cup full of ice for my cap.  (That saved me in the heat for the last miles). I passed the ice around to other runners who were also very grateful and she told me later she had two bags full of ice she had been passing out to any runner who wanted it.

Saw Vic's wife, Judy, at 25.5.  She took my picture and then asked if I knew where Vic was. I told her the food poisoning was bothering him a lot and I thought he was 30-60 minutes back. She started to cry at that because she had the same food poisoning and knew how hard it was on him and that he had ran anyway. Stopped for a while to comfort her and told her I would come back. Lost a couple of minutes there - but they weren't wasted.

After I finished I grabbed some treats and Marcia and I started walking back to see Judy.  Just past the finish chutes, we saw Vic coming in.  He had managed to rally himself.  Then I saw Leslie about 50 feet behind him. They even ran together for a while.  Walked Judy back in.

Vic & Judy let us shower at their hotel before the long drive home.

Great day - now on to taper and recovery for Pony Express 50.

"Lost a couple of minutes there - but they weren't wasted."

I didn't even know that you went to St George. You hung in there to the end! I'm envious of everyone who went even with the heat.

Jun - you totally stole my comment!! I loved that line as well. How many times do we lose minutes and think they are wasted? There are more improtant things in life than a specific finish time and I'm glad you can recognize that!!

Sounds like you had an amazing race and are more than prepared for PE!! Good luck, and congrats on making the race all it was MEANT to be!

Oh...and I thought the Larry line was funny :) Wish I would've seen your sister out there. Shes a fun lady and I would've loved to shout a hello to her! Tell her hi for me!

I agree: Best line bar none. Congrats on another fantastic race. I am so happy that you were able to run pain free. :)

Thanks for the ride down, it was fun to have some girl time and get the low down on Wicked!

That was a doozy in the heat! Great job Maurine, I just could not keep up, the heat and the under training and my fat butt. I have a lot of work to do to get ready for my next race!

You will rock at the PE50!!!

Nice job!!! I can not believe you drove home after, I am always so tired!!! And way impressed that you are doing that 50 so soon, crazy!

That heat must have been a killer! Saint George is pretty extreme (both ways!). I can't believe this was your warm up for Pony Express. Sounds like SGM was a pretty good experience for you. Have a PE "taper" this week. You are tough as nails sister, you just keep on, keepin' on. I love that about you.

Great attitude. Way to go.
