Short-Term Running Goals:

After 1/9/2010 - I am taking a year off from marathon length distances and focusing on building up my base speed on half marathons and shorter distances.

2010 Speed Goals:

  • Build up my base speed on training runs to 10 MM miles or better
  • Half Marathon - break 2:05 (9.5 MM avg)
  • 10K Goal 1 - break 1:00 (9.67 MM avg)
  • 10K Goal 2 - break 55 minutes (8.87 MM avg)
  • 5K Goal 1 - break 26.35 minutes
  • 5K Goal 2 - break 25 minutes

Long-Term Running Goals:

Long Term Goals:

  • Complete a 100 Mile race
  • Complete a 100 K race
  • Break 12 hours in a 50 mile race
  • Run all portions of the Wasatch 100 course
  • Break 5 hours in a marathon
  • Break 4.5 hours in a marathon
  • Qualify for and run Boston

1 mile jogging warm-up followed by 4.5 miles of pushing the pace on my hilly quarry route. (11:51/10:11/10:25/10:28)

1.17 miles jogging cool down with the puppy.

PM - 11 miles biking to Draper and back.  Stopped at the gym and did chest/triceps/calves for 45 minutes.  I didn't eat enough today and could tell it was affecting my strength.

1 mile walking the dog to her training class and back.

Yeah - I'm starting to feel more like I did earlier this year. I still struggle to push myself out the door and mentally keep trying to quit for the first mile, but once I get going and warm up I seem to do better.

I am going to try to 'push the pace' 2-3 times a week and then just enjoy my relaxed pace the other days I choose to run.

What is interesting is that I only have to kick it up a notch to get into sub 11 pace, which probably means I can get that to be my normal pace by 2010.

Go 2010! I hope you're feeling alright about Park City. I've been thinking about that all this week. I'm feeling strong right now, but not looking forward to any higher mileage. Good luck getting through this week!

I think you are doing great. You certainly have the right mindset and are setting reachable goals. Before you know it, you'll be down in the low 10s.

Steve - I tackle that hill two different ways.

1) 7th East to 8600 South. Up to 13th East. Up to 9400 South. Down the Quarry hill.

2) 7th East to 9000 South. Up the Quarry Hill to 13th East. Down 13th, or continue further up 9400 South to get even more fun hills in.

Today I did option 1.

Either way gets some good climbing in.

I also like to run up and down the hill from 13th to Creek Road if I want to do hill repeats.
