Short-Term Running Goals:

After 1/9/2010 - I am taking a year off from marathon length distances and focusing on building up my base speed on half marathons and shorter distances.

2010 Speed Goals:

  • Build up my base speed on training runs to 10 MM miles or better
  • Half Marathon - break 2:05 (9.5 MM avg)
  • 10K Goal 1 - break 1:00 (9.67 MM avg)
  • 10K Goal 2 - break 55 minutes (8.87 MM avg)
  • 5K Goal 1 - break 26.35 minutes
  • 5K Goal 2 - break 25 minutes

Long-Term Running Goals:

Long Term Goals:

  • Complete a 100 Mile race
  • Complete a 100 K race
  • Break 12 hours in a 50 mile race
  • Run all portions of the Wasatch 100 course
  • Break 5 hours in a marathon
  • Break 4.5 hours in a marathon
  • Qualify for and run Boston

Took benadryl last night and finally got a good night sleep and was able to get out the door around 5 this morning.  Ran 5 miles alone, then another mile with the puppy as a cool down.  Did the quarry loop to get some hills in.

Got a lot done at work today.

PM - 1 mile walking the dog in the heat.  Ate dinner. 1 hour at the gym working hard on chest/triceps/core. 1 more mile walking the dog in the lesser heat of the day.

Thanks, Allie. I'm trying to get over a running 'burnout' and figure out how to get back to a place where I can enjoy running without feeling like a failure for not being fast.

I wouldn't mind getting faster - but my overall goal is to be healthy and happy the rest of my life and I have found that hanging on this forum can lead to mental pressure that I am not ready for right now.

maurine - your overall goal of health and happiness is much more important and valuable than being "fast". plus, it's all relative. there's always someone faster out there, and there's always someone slower. just look at your blog...you have some amazing accomplishments. i have never in my life ran longer than a marathon. you've done a 28 mile HARD trail race and have a goal to finish a 50 mile race. i can't even imagine ever doing something like that. really. things like that amaze me.

i feel like i have been in a bit of a "burnout" mode myself. it happens. the enjoyment will come back. breaks are good sometimes. keep up the positive goals and perspective.

Great job Maurine. Welcome back to the Sub-6 club. As for your love of running, come on a trail outing with me, Enoch, and Scott; you'll get it back. We are slow and TONS of fun. I ran for a good mile down the Mill D trail today singing to Guster at the top of my lungs. I'm hoping I woke some people in their cabins.

Steve - hard habit to break, so that is why I am trying to break it.

Long story short - grew up in an emotionally abusive relationship with a controlling parent, so learned to work hard but never make that parent happy no matter how much I did.

Got married to an emotionally abusive & controlling spouse, so learned to work hard but never make that spouse happy no matter how much I did.

Joined the blog and guess who I hooked up with! An emotionally abusive and controlling blog person.....

I am beyond that now and back to running to please me and meet my own goals (most of the time)...

You are an amazing woman! I'm with Allie, you totally impress the pants off me with your dedication and persistence! Great job on the run this morning, I'm sure that puppy is going to be a runner too!

Oh, and as a side note...completely understand the 'history' of your life, sounds VERY familiar. I was just lucky enough to find a good guy so once I moved out and got married I've had a good environment to learn how to be 'normal' -although I don't think I ever will be or want to be :)

Hey you! Allie is exactly right, and so are you. Being able to run and be healthy is the #1 thing, PERIOD! You are healthy (minus the mysterious rash ;) and you are an OUTSTANDING athlete! You take all of the 40+ women in the US and you could out last, out run, out compete 99.9% of them, at virtually ANY sport. Yes, it is a little heart aching to see all of these speedy speedsters running 1/2 and full marathons in about half the time it takes us, but WHO THE HECK CARES! You are still out there everyday, and that is what counts! None of us were dealt the same hand. In the end is does not matter the hand we were dealt, just what we did with it! You, my dear friend, are AMAZING!!! don't forget it! Do I need to make you a cross stitch with that on it??? :) xoxoxoxoxo
