Rest day today.  I'll just take the puppy on some short walks.

Interesting night - I woke up at 2 a.m. when I should have been exhausted and, after laying there for an hour, got up and ate something hoping I was just hungry. Still couldn't fall asleep, so tried taking off the compression shorts and stockings and fell asleep a few minutes later.  Interesting though - as soon as I took off the compression shorts, I found that my quads were really aching from yesterdays run.  Did not feel it at all while wearing them.

Legs were heavy when walking the dog.

Talked to the Race Director's wife about the course on Saturday. She says there is a lot of mud and snow up on Logan Peak - so I know which shoes to wear to keep my feet dry.

Interesting, the shorts were squeezing the pain away ;) Rest day is ALWAYS good! ;)

I don't think I could wear anything tight when sleeping. How are your quads now? Hope they're not sore anymore. Remember to hydrate well today and tomorrow. Mud and snow does not sound good to me. Especially after reading about Crockett's Bighorn 100. Yes, the right shoes will be critical. GOOD LUCK. You will do awesome. I really admire ultra trail runners. :)

Mud, I bet!!! Fun run, take pictures for us!

So, you are sleeping in the compression shorts? Why for?

I mentioned in yesterday's post that I am experimenting with them for recovery purposes.

I saw that, I just did not realize you were going to sleep in them!

Do you have some goretex shoes or something like that to wear?

From Maurine/Tarzan on Thu, Jun 25, 2009 at 14:56:40 from 63.255.172.2

I think I will wear my Montrail Vitesse and a pair of gaiters.

Good luck at the race.

How are those Montrail shoes? Are they expensive?

From leslie peterson on Fri, Jun 26, 2009 at 10:14:20 from 76.23.61.78

Wow!!! I go away for two days and look what happens!!! Maurine, that sounds like a serious trail run!!!!! Good luck, I am going to be excited to hear all about it. The elevation gain sounds brutal!!!! I think we are going to try the Crest again, so I will have some mud and snow too, but not any where near the climbing you will be doing. Are all the body parts working okay? I will be thinking of you!!!!!

Steve - they actually have discontinued these shoes - but I like them. I got two pairs at Striders on closeout (half price at around $50) this spring. You might want to see if you can get a pair online.

Les - yep - feeling good and excited and scared about the challenge. However, this will also give me a good indication if some of the larger and harder trail races are within my capabilities.

Good luck at the race. Can't wait to read all about it.

Congratulations. That is a tough race, I did it last year. Well done.
