Short-Term Running Goals:

After 1/9/2010 - I am taking a year off from marathon length distances and focusing on building up my base speed on half marathons and shorter distances.

2010 Speed Goals:

  • Build up my base speed on training runs to 10 MM miles or better
  • Half Marathon - break 2:05 (9.5 MM avg)
  • 10K Goal 1 - break 1:00 (9.67 MM avg)
  • 10K Goal 2 - break 55 minutes (8.87 MM avg)
  • 5K Goal 1 - break 26.35 minutes
  • 5K Goal 2 - break 25 minutes

Long-Term Running Goals:

Long Term Goals:

  • Complete a 100 Mile race
  • Complete a 100 K race
  • Break 12 hours in a 50 mile race
  • Run all portions of the Wasatch 100 course
  • Break 5 hours in a marathon
  • Break 4.5 hours in a marathon
  • Qualify for and run Boston

4.6 miles running  in the afternoon heat. I forgot to set my alarm this morning and really regretted it. My body is not adapting to the heat rising this quickly at all.  I have to stop more often and was glad to carry water because I was seriously having dehydration issues.

Stopped at Wasatch Running and bought some new running socks and some gel/shot block combinations.  They let me fill up on water  and I think I drank about 6 cups of water while I was there.

Maurine , Ugali is a Kenyan dish, basically stiff corn mush, cakelike I suppose. It is boiled in water. It is for me surprisingly good especially with some salt and such. Keeps the blood sugar more stable at the beginning of the day.

Try hydrating with 12-24 ounces of water before hand. I always do. Have you ever used a heart rate monitor before by the way?

RAD - it was an expensive pit stop - but I needed some new running socks and was dying of the heat. Normally I don't have a problem with heat - but I usually have a bit longer to adapt to it.

hmmmm - Ugali sounds 'interesting'...

Steve - I actually drank about 16 oz shortly before the run and drank another 16 oz while running. I think I was probably still stressed from pushing my run in the heat on Monday and didn't drink as much as I should have because I was stuck in meetings all day.

I haven't run with a heart rate monitor in a while - but probably should go back to it. I get confused as to whether I should focus on pace on my Garmin or heart rate on the monitor. I do have a new one I bought a few months back and should probably start using it more. I do check my RHR in the morning using a pulse oximeter to see if I am recovering from my previous training.

And now folks - off to bed.

Great minds think a like, I went to Wasatch Running yesterday and bought over $50 worth of gu, blocks, and socks!!

Yeah, Les. It was all your fault. You got me coveting new goods. I bought some of the new shot blocks and am excited to try them (how pathetic).
