Just ran 3 miles with the dog this morning.

I don't know whether to be concerned about my lungs or not.  The past three days have been 'different'.  I go to bed at night with high expectations for my workout in the morning. Then I wake up and my lungs feel 'tired'.  I can't explain it - but I can really feel my lungs when I wake up and they are not happy.  They don't bother me later in the day, but take away my motivation for working out in the morning.

Also, I have had the ball of my right foot hurt for the past 2-3 weeks.  It is most sensitive when I walk barefoot, but I can also feel it when I am running.  Strangely enough, it hurts less running in the FiveFingers than in padded shoes.  I felt the ball of the foot several times on my trail run yesterday.  It is not a painful hurt, but feels like a bruised foot would - however, it doesn't get better or worse and it does not stop me from working out.

Maybe I'm just getting old and falling apart.  Any thoughts?

Update: Went to the doctor who says my lungs are clear - no sign of infection or asthma.  However, considering the amount of training I do and my fitness level, she says that maybe there is some kind of upper respiratory infection/inflammation, so we are trying a combination of antibiotics and inhaler to see if they help.

PM - 2 miles with the dog.  We headed down to a snowcone shack and shared a sugar free snowcone.

Have you ever been tested for asthma?

From Maurine/Tarzan on Thu, Jul 16, 2009 at 11:00:10 from 63.255.172.2

Funny you should ask. I was thinking of that earlier today and wondering. I have had asthma in the past on occasion when I had a cold - but not since I started marathon training. Maybe I should get it checked out. (They didn't hear anything when I went in to the doctor last week though).

Do you feel like there is something in your lungs that you can't quite get out? Even when you are laying in bed?

From Maurine/Tarzan on Thu, Jul 16, 2009 at 11:03:56 from 63.255.172.2

Yes. I feel like there is a bunch of pollution in there.

One way to check for asthma is to try an inhaler and see if it helps. Maybe call your doc and see if it would be okay to try ventolin ... if she/he says that would be alright come and get one of mine. Try it for a couple days and see what happens. Seriously.

My daughter has bad asthma and my son nearly died from it when he was a baby - so odds are good that I get it off and on.

In 2005 I spent months on ventolin/proventil and advair because they thought I had asthma (coughed non stop for 3 months) - but they decided it couldn't be asthma because running was the one thing that stopped me from coughing.

I do feel like there is an elephant squeezing me most of the time this week - so will call the doc now and see if I can get an appointment around my crazy work schedule for the next few days.

OK - scheduled a doctor's visit at 11 to see if I can get this fixed.
